Artist’s Organs
Tel Aviv Museum of Art
2022
In “Artist’s Organs,” the work of Itamar Stamler and Lior Zalmanson, the organs of the first were scanned, harvested, and placed in digital coolers for
trading in the NFT market at a maximum price. The issue of organ trafficking
is one of the most troubling phenomena of global trade. It is a tragic default
for those in the third world with no alternative means to break
the cycle of distress and poverty. The Covid-19 crisis has brought many artists into existential despair. Therefore, trading NFT has become a way to escape their precarious situation. By drawing and modeling parallels, the
work raises moral questions regarding unethical opportunism, suffering, and the slippery slope of unregulated markets.
